Avenging Angel Places A Woman At The Top

One of my joys at the moment is catching up with some of the cult tv from the 1960s – one particular show is the Avengers.  Filmed throughout the 1960s and ending a decade later, today it is absolutely fabulous fun.  Having purchased the two series with the delightful Mrs. Emma Peel as a lead character, I realise how totally ground breaking is the approach to the two lead roles – she is not treated in any way less than the male lead.  In fact her brilliant mind (nuclear scientist, sculptor, artist, top shot & fencer,oh and exsquisite self defence) and ability to remain a top sleuth and government agent makes her worthy of a £10 million auction price – a massive amount in 1965!

How wonderful to see this gorgeous creature – if only a spoof, admired and greeted so warmly – and the whole series was written, produced and directed by an all male team. Hurrah!
